Two Affiliates Tell Their Story
Two Affiliates Tell Their Story
This week I debuted a brand-new website, and one facet of that debut inspired me to write this piece. There's also the affiliate factor...
This week, a few affiliates have been making some decent money using my new affiliate program on my site, SimplyWholesale, and I thought I'd share how they've been doing it with you.
In my opinion, three distinct varieties of affiliate exist. The first category consists of affiliates who sign up but do nothing further with their newfound status. These visitors will never generate any revenue for either the site owner or themselves.
Let's take a closer look at the second and third sorts of affiliates since, while they are distinct, they both contribute greatly to the success of an internet business.
Now, let's take a peek at the "Big Hit Affiliate," as I'm dubbing it. In most cases, the Big Hit Affiliate will have amassed a sizable email subscriber base over the course of several months or even years. In the event that a Big Hit Affiliate is interested in promoting your website, you can expect a substantial influx of visitors.
You can make hundreds or even thousands of dollars or pounds with the help of a Big Hit Affiliate in a very short period of time (I'm talking hours, not days or weeks), and of course, they will also be making money for themselves as an affiliate.
In the past week, SimplyWholesale has benefited from the promotion efforts of not one but two Big Hit Affiliates, whose combined ability to drive traffic and revenue is quite impressive. Affiliate sales commissions can be several hundred pounds or dollars, and one affiliate managed to attract over 2,000 unique users to the site in just a couple of hours (for sending one email!).
A Big Hitter's promotional email to their list is wonderful news for website owners because it often results in a sudden surge of visitors and purchases. Of course, the situation returns to normal quickly, and purchases typically cease entirely within a week. A situation that was enjoyable just for as long as it lasted
Next, I'll discuss the "Slow and Steady Affiliate," the other main type of affiliate.
As a rule, the Slow and Steady affiliate doesn't have a very large subscriber base. Perhaps he or she only uses online auction sites like eBay.com. In any case, they have a web presence of some kind and function as an affiliate by including promotional materials like a link or banner on their site, forum, "about me" page, auction page, or something similar. They don't bombard your website with thousands of visitors in the time it takes to restart your computer; instead, they send a steady stream of people.
But here's the difference: traffic from a Slow and Steady Affiliate doesn't dry up after a week; rather, it steadily increases week after week.
Even if the S&S Affiliate only sends you 50 visits per day and you only make one sale from those people, keep in mind that this happens every day. One sale per day, thirty sales per month, three hundred sixty-five sales per year...
The longer the S&S Affiliate is successful, the more likely they are to keep sending you traffic, and the longer they are successful, the more traffic they will bring your way (and you will generate sales).
We have a few affiliates who are making one or two sales every day, despite the fact that SimplyWholesale has only been around for a week. That's up to sixty purchases a month, which translates to a commission of between £266 and £533 based on our average sale price. From your perspective, it's a nice sum of extra money.
Is it better to be a "big hit" affiliate or a "slow and steady" affiliate?
To be completely honest, I have a hard time deciding between the two. The Big Hitter is fantastic, and it can provide a very nice 'extra' pay packet, but the S&S is what you can count on week-in and week-out to be your "bread and butter" income. I suppose the perfect affiliate would have both a large subscriber base and a popular website.
